Yesterday, we all went on a hike on the Hidden Creek trail. We drove to Skilak Lake Road, where the trail is, and stopped. Once on the trail, we hiked 1.5 miles down the trail. Once the trail paralleled the lake, we walked off the trail a few feet to the lake. We camped on the lake shore, but there is a cool windbreak with places to sit at the end of the trail. This trail is lots of fun, but it is windy. There are also lots of bears around this trail too.
Our dogs Lupa and Nipper are so much fun. Lupa and Nipper have so many adventures big and small. This blog tells about their adventures.

Mount Hope Climb
Yesterday, we drove to the Hope Point trail in Hope, Alaska. The trail is unmaintaned and unmarked, but we knew that access to the trail is just inside of Porcupine Campground at the end of the Hope Highway. The trail climbs 2.5 miles up to Hope Point and follows Porcupine Creek for the first part of the hike. After following the creek for a while, we started a steep climb which leveled out a little as it rose up. At the beginning of the climb we crawled, but after the first bit we were able to walk. The whole climb was steep and headed through forest, except for several parts where it was grassy and rocky. Throughout the trip, there were awesome views of Hope, Turnagain Arm, and the surrounding mountains. Towards the top, the trail gets narrow, rocky, and you have to crawl. The trail up to the summit (bottom picture) is very steep and has a whole lot of loose dirt and rock. That part will scare you, even if you aren't very afraid of heights. This trail was really tiring, but it was a ton of fun.
Gull Rock Hike
A couple days ago we all headed to a trail near Hope, Alaska called the Gull Rock trail. We took the muddy trail from Porcupine Campground, walked for something like an hour or so, and eventually made it up a cliff, where we could see Turnagain Arm quite well. After walking on the cliff for a while, we noticed that the sun was setting. We didn't make it all the way to our destination, Gull Rock, but as we were turning around, we saw what we think was Gull Rock. It looked to be another couple hours away! According to the guidebook, the Gull Rock trail is 5.1 miles long one way and should take at least six hours round trip. We had lots of fun on this trail.
